Dr. Israr Ahmed

Dr. Israr Ahmed (1932-2021) was a prominent Pakistani Islamic scholar known for his significant contributions to Islamic thought. After starting his career in medicine, he redirected his focus to Islamic studies, becoming renowned for his deep insights into the Quran and Hadith. His most notable work, “Tadabbur-e-Qur’an,” a comprehensive Quranic exegesis, exemplified his commitment to bridging the gap between traditional teachings and the modern world.
Dr. Israr Ahmed’s influence extended beyond academia. In 1975, he founded Tanzeem-e-Islami, an organization dedicated to promoting Islamic values and unity. He advocated for an Islamic society while emphasizing the importance of understanding and integrating contemporary knowledge within the framework of faith. His balanced approach resonated with audiences globally, and his lectures and writings continue to guide individuals seeking a profound connection with their faith.
His passing in 2010 marked the end of an era, yet his legacy persists. Dr. Israr Ahmed’s life and work remain a testament to his unwavering dedication to scholarship, his mission to revive Islamic principles, and his ability to bridge the gap between ancient wisdom and the challenges of the modern age.

Imam Elturk’s journey with IONA began in 1995, where he passionately propagated the message of the Quran through lectures and sermons in the US and internationally. Assuming the role of Ameer in 2003, he transitioned from a successful career in Electronics Engineering to lead IONA’s Masjid and Learning Center in Warren, Michigan. Beyond his leadership within IONA, he has been a dynamic force in interfaith activities, earning accolades like the 2020 InterFaith Leadership Council of Metropolitan Detroit’s Leadership Award.
Imam Elturk’s enduring commitment to education, interfaith engagement, and Quranic teachings solidifies his place as a respected leader. His presidency at IONA continues to inspire and shape the organization’s path, reflecting his unwavering dedication to fostering understanding, unity, and spiritual growth in the community.
