Warren Public Library Hosts Muslim Civilization Display

In November of 2017, the Muslim Community hosted the ‘1001 Inventions’ exhibit at the Michigan Science Center in Detroit. The exhibit is an international, award-winning traveling exhibit that showcases the legacy of scientific discovery and innovation during the golden age of Muslim Civilization, beginning in the 7th century and following the story through one thousand years of history and progress.

The legacy is on display at the Warren Civic Center Library in City Hall. “We are grateful to Ms. Oksana Urban, Director of the Warren Public Library, for facilitating this unique educational opportunity,” said Mustapha Elturk, Imam and President of the Islamic Organization of North America (IONA). Commenting on the display, Ms. Oksana Urban said, “This (display) is so professional and exceptional, the Muslim history and Muslim civilization portrayed right here.”

The display, which runs until September 30th, illustrates years of forgotten Islamic history and Muslim civilization. The Islamic Golden Age was a period of cultural, economic, scientific and technological inventions.

Also on display is the foreword by King Charles III (then Prince of Wales) to the “1001 Inventions” book published by National Geographic. The display is intended to foster better understanding between peoples and cultures.
